Our choice and why
We ended up signing a 1BR in Bella Vista (Obarrio). Three concrete reasons:
- Our work is remote: no need for Costa del Este office proximity
- No kids: no need for CDE international schools
- We travel often: metro to Tocumen, proximity to Casco Viejo, Cinta Costera. Everything on foot.
If we’d had 2 kids in elementary school enrolled at the French Lycée, we’d have chosen Costa del Este. No hesitation.

Casco Viejo
- For who: artists, hoteliers, restaurateurs, nightlife
- Furnished 1BR rent: $1,800-$3,500 (very variable)
- Pro: UNESCO heritage, maximum cool factor
- Con: touristy, noisy, scarce parking
Marbella
- For who: settled retirees, senior executives
- Furnished 1BR rent: $1,500-$2,500
- Pro: close to Bella Vista without the noise, hospitals 5 min away
- Con: less neighborhood life than Bella Vista
Punta Pacífica
- For who: ultra-high-end, ocean view
- Furnished 1BR rent: $2,200-$4,000
